THE NEW GWSS?
Awareness of Sudden Oak Death (SOD)
caused by the fungus Phytopthora Ramorum, has taken on a new
meaning when Canada recently imposed a quarantine on soil bearing
containerized and field grown plant material from California
and Oregon.
CAN, and it's newly formed Nursery
Growers Council, conferred with ANLA and CDFA, and have endorsed
the concept of an interim USDA regulation that parallels CDFA's
current regulations, and will ultimately lead to a federal quarantine.
This regulation will mitigate potential multi jurisdictional
regulations that could adversely affect shipping between States.
The interim regulation is pending, with completion expected
after the first of the year. NGA will keep you updated as progress
is made.
