Updating
the report from last month regarding the testing of products
that might lead to an 'approved treatment' a draft protocol
was circulated to the members of the Nursery Subcommittee of
the Pierce's Disease Control task Force.
The primary
goal is to create a standard for the testing that will meet
the requirements of the primary stakeholders, the wine industry.
There are several products that are being considered for testing.
Once the draft is amended with any needed changes the process
of calling for proposals will start.
We are
too late to have any impact on this year but if the testing
takes place throughout the summer, the data might lead to a
program for next year. The ultimate goal is a 'treat and ship'
scenario. This will require complete buy in from the north.
The documents are available for review and comment.
Recent
Finds
There are
three areas listed in CDFA's site that have ongoing catches
of adult GWSS: Chico, Santa Clara, and Porterville. These are
sites that have had infestations over the last year. Treatments
are pending for Santa Clara but have been done for the other
areas.

Upcoming
meetings:
The Statewide Task Force will be meeting on may 20th in Sacramento
and will feature reports from all the operating subcommittees.
Much more information will be available after that meeting.
In late
May, the Citrus Subcommittee will meeting will include a tour
of the General Beale Area in Bakersfield. We will see the Area
Wide Management pilot program in action. This is the model that
is being proposed for the citrus groves in Ventura County that
we reported on last month. Since then CDFA has met with some
of the citrus growers in the county to present the overview
of the program.
